Our Favorite Music:

Uncle Bob got more worked up when Miles Davis released 'All Blues' than the time he cut half his thumb off at the ice house, (but that's a different story.) He was just that excited about good music. He spent many Sunday afternoons listening to everything from John Coltrane to Led Zeppelin in our living room and we all learned something about good music in the bargain.

The selection below is at least as varied as Uncle Bob's and I think you'll find something that you might not have run into before.

Lyle Lovett - Road to Encenada
Mr. Lovett's best album. If you have no other Lyle Lovett, get this CD. It is artistic, Texas country music.

Lyle Lovett - Pontiac
A close second to 'Road to Ensenada'. Excellent country songwriting and playing. I especially like 'Walk Through The Bottomland'.

Nick Drake
You may have heard the title song a couple of years ago on the VW commercials. This is the best, singer-songwriter you never heard of.

Greg Howe - Jazz Rock Guitar Wonder
These guys are really tight. More than just show-offs, it's great music.

Jonas Hellborg- Jazz Rock Guitar Phenom
Another exceptional guitar player with an ultra-tight band.

Gigi - African pop music.
World- music at its best. 'Guramayle' is worth the price of the CD. It's magical.

Bill Withers - All the great songs
If you want to hear real, original, soul music, this guy wrote the book.

George Winston - Simple, elegant piano music
Solo acoustic piano. Put this on and it really helps you unwind.

Bob Dylan - His last, best album
If you own only one Bob Dylan album, let this be it.

Ximo Tebar - Jazz and Blues Guitar
Very polished jazz guitar with some blues and New Orleans-style horn work.

Wes Montgomery - Jazz Guitar Master of the Octave
Early Wes is the best. This is early and it's good.

Kenny Burell - Cool Jazz Guitar
You heard Kenny Burrell in our house day and night. He defined this genre. You have to hear this!

Led Zepelin - The height of their creative power
Our dad liked this album. He and I used to play 'Over the Hills and Far Away' in our basement. It's not just classic rock, it's classic.

Tom Waits - Before he dated Rickie Lee
If you can relate to 'warm beer and cold women', Tom Waits is your man. Great songwriting and the most original singer of his generation.

Van Morrison - Good writing, playing and singing.
Great, early Van Morrison. Honest emotion, excellent songs.

Little Feat - Their best live recording
Lowel George was the heart and soul of this band. He's great on this.

Van Halen - Their first and best album.
Whether you like Dave or Sammy, this is simply the band's best recording.

Marc Cohn - First album
Wonderful songwriting. We played 'True Companion' at our wedding.

Allman Brothers - Alive and kicking
The quintessential Allman Brothers. Duane lets loose and even D. Betts sounds good!

Miles Davis - In his Blue period.
'All Blues' and 'So What' are classics. If you listen to jazz, you have to have this album.

Stevie Wonder - Great, lesser known songs
Many of these songs still get on the air once in a while, but the album is full of soul sleepers.

Rickie Lee Jones - First album
She is a wonderful songwriter. Listen to her most unencumbered album.

Sly and the Family Stone - The original funk band
You can't help but to love these songs. Another genre-defining, funk-rock collection.

Charlie Brown Christmas
Vince Giraldi's treatment of these classics is melancholy and wonderful. Our favorite Christmas music.
